Albert Lyle Painter, 89 years and 345 days, of Newman passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2026 at 2:02 a.m. at Sarah Bush Lincoln hospital.
Lyle was born April 1, 1936, to David and Agnes Reynolds Painter on a farm outside of Homer, IL. The 5th of 10 children. He married Beverly Czerwonka on June 27, 1959. She preceded him in death on November 9, 2009.
After working for the railroad, Lyle was a farmhand before beginning his career at the Murdock Coal Mine in 1969. He was one of the last remaining employees when operations ceased and he retired in 1993. However, he stayed busy in retirement working at the Homer elevator, being a surrogate grandpa to many of Bev’s daycare children, woodworking, helping his sons with their small businesses, taking care of the yards of several neighbors, and fixing anything that was broken. He was happiest tinkering in his garage.
Left to cherish his memory are children; Ruthie & Tim Lubkeman, David & Kandy Painter all of Urbana, Tom & Karen Painter of Newman, and Bill & Tammy Painter of Homer. Also surviving are his grandchildren; Heather Sumption & Michael Endsley of Tuscola, Brandi Pulleyblank of Philo, Dustin & Sarah Sumption of Tuscola, Baylie and Dustin Green of Newman, Dalton & Harley Painter of Hoffman, Hayden Painter of Savoy, and Keegan & Kenzie Painter of Fairmount, IL. He also leaves behind great grandchildren; Mikhala Sumption, Noah Endsley, Josie Pulleyblank, Madison Armes, Jaxon & Grayson Sumption, and Harvey Painter. Lyle was also anxiously awaiting the arrival of two more great-grandchildren; baby girl Fallon Painter - with whom he hoped to share a birthday and baby Green. Great-great grandchildren Lucas & Taylor Armes. His brothers; Harold, Dale, Jerry, and sisters Helen Woods, Judy Wells, as well as many nieces and nephews also survive.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter; Cheryl Lynn, three brothers and a sister.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 21, 2026 at 3 p.m. at Joines Funeral Home in Newman. Burial will be held at the Newman Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
