Barbara A. Legner, 82, of Charleston passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at Willow Breeze Hospice House in Mattoon.
Barbara was born on December 17, 1942 in Loogootee, IL to Henry and Mary (Roedl) Kramer.
She is survived by two children, Paulina Chavez and Michael (Shanteal) Harris; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four siblings; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Mary Kramer; husband, Jeff Legner; one son, Mark Harris; two brothers; and three sisters.
Barbara was a CNA for several years before attending EIU and graduating with a degree in education. She then spent the majority of her life as a special education teacher at various schools and would later retire from teaching.
Barbara loved to keep busy doing things like yard work, fishing, and crocheting. She could use any power tool you put in her hand, and was a night owl often staying up all night reading. She loved her dog Bella dearly, and cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren. Barbara will truly be missed by her family and friends.
A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held at a later date.
