Barbara Sue Walker (Bobby), 81, of Broadlands passed away on August 18, 2023 peacefully in her sleep after a battle with cancer, a beloved wife, mother, and grandma at Evergreen Place Assisted Living in Champaign.
Bobby was born on May 22, 1942 to William (Bill) and Lillian Davis in Champaign. Bobby Graduated from ABL High School in 1960 and went on to pursue a career as a beloved secretary in the Unit 4 School system. Her faith in God and compassion for children in need led her to a lifetime of volunteering. Most notably her time on the boards of Cunningham Children’s Home and United Methodist Women.
After Bobby graduated from ABL High she married high school sweetheart Charles C. Walker (Chuck) on August 4, 1961. They went on to have 3 boys, Brad (Renee) Walker, Brian (Darla) Walker, and Brett (Kate) Walker.
In 1998 she retired from Unit 4 and spent her time pursuing her passion for children in need and surrounding herself with the joy of time spent with her grand and great grandchildren.
Bobby was preceded in death by her parents, devoted husband, 3 baby brothers, and niece Elisabeth Knapp.
She is survived by her doting sons, 8 Grandchildren: Dustin (Brittany) Buchholz, Devin Walker, Megan (Alex) Craciun, Dylan (Anish) Walker, Erin (Austin) Walker, Brandon Walker, Zoyie Walker, Jackson Walker 6 Great-Grandchildren: Parker Harris, Kenzy Harris, Hydra Craciun, Maverick Craciun, Faith Harris, and Sofia Montgomery; nephews and nieces: Erik (Chris), Ellen, Forrest (Amberly), Chad (Jamie), and Shawn (Kara).
Her family would like to give a big THANK YOU to all the workers at Sarah Bush Cancer Center and to Evergreen Place Assisted Living.
A visitation will be held from 10am -12pm on Friday August 25, 2023 at Joines Funeral Home in Newman with the funeral service beginning at 12pm. Pastor Dave Trover will be officiating. Burial will follow at the Fairfield Cemetery.
Memorial Donations may be made to the Champaign County Humane Society and Cunningham Children’s Home.
