Belva Chloe Shipley, 91, of Urbana (formerly of Newman) passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2026 at her home in Urbana.
Chloe was born on April 21, 1934 in Crawfords County to Clarus and Belva (Lingafelter) Richards. She married Cecil Shipley on April 26, 1953 in Newman, IL.
She is survived by her children, Robert (Donna) Shipley, Darrell Shipley, Phillip Shipley, Kandy (David) Painter, and Lee (Jackie) Shipley; grandchildren, Mysty (Billy) Davis, Dustin Shipley, Regina (Patrick) McCalip, Robert (Megan) Levitt, Kurtis (Kimberly) Cramer, Kendall Fogler, Kayla Ward, Kasondra Shipley, Clrissa Rodabaugh, Shannon (Michelle) Erhardt, and Josh Erhardt; 23 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, son Larry Shipley, daughter-in-law; Rose Shipley; siblings Virginia Ashbaugh, Eleanor Rose, Wilbur Richards, Estello Lowe, Charlotte Marsh, Howard Richards, and Nada Lou Dunn, and several brother and sister-in-law’s and nieces and nephews.
Chloe attended a one room school house before attending Newman High School from which she graduated from in 1952. A few of Chloe’s first jobs were working at the movie theater in Newman, was a housekeeper, and worked at Jewel Grocery. Later in life she worked retail at Carson Pirie Scott, Bergner’s, and Kohl’s. Once retired, she stayed at home to raise her children.
Chloe enjoyed working on word searches, crocheting, and playing games on her tablet. She was a member of the Newman Christian Church, and a lifetime member of the American Legion in Rantoul and the VFW in Paris. Chloe cherished her time she spent with her family, and will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held from 6-8pm on Thursday, February 12, 2026 at Joines Funeral Home in Newman. Funeral service will be held at 11am on Friday, February 13, 2026 also at Joines Funeral Home; burial will follow at the Newman Cemetery. Pastor Don Mobley will be officiating.
