Betty R. Hopkins

Betty R. Hopkins, 95, of Newman passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2024 at Pleasant Meadows Senior Living in Chrisman.

Betty was born on May 14, 1929 in Indiana to Frank and Zella (Zigler) Allen.  She marred Billie Hopkins in Newman on July 28, 1949; he preceded her in death.

Also preceding her in death were her parents, daughter Julie Hopkins, and five siblings, Helen Hoel, Rachel McCormick, Mary Drake, Pansy VanSickle, and Dwight Allen.

She is survived by one daughter, Jennifer (Darrell) Kibler; three grandchildren, Erica Ash, Cameron (Kaylin) Kibler, and Brittany Holmes; and eight great-grandchildren.

Betty graduated from Newman High School in 1947.  She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Newman, Christian Women’s Fellowship, and the First Christian Church in Newman and served as the secretary for 50 years.  Betty also worked at the Newman Grade School for many years in the cafeteria as a cook.  Betty enjoyed shopping and loved all her cats she had through the years.  There wasn’t anything that made her happier than when she was spending time with her kids and grandkids.

A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. on Friday, December 6, 2024 at the Joines Funeral Home in Newman with Pastor Justin Smith officiating; burial will follow at the Newman Cemetery.  Visitation will be held two hours prior to the funeral service (10 am – 12 pm) also at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to the First Christian Church in Newman for the building fund.
