Darrell E. Smith

Darrell E. Smith, 76, of Broadlands passed away at his home on Saturday, September 14, 2024.

Darrell was born to Clyde and Evelyn (Mitchaner) Smith on May 25, 1948 in Champaign, IL.  He married Jane Wilson on September 11, 1970; she survives.

Also surviving is one sister, Beverly Kent; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and five sisters.

Darrell was very proud of his time in the service and the time he spent with the 51st Medical Company.  He served for two years in the Army and fought in the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Broadlands United Community Church and the Singing Men of WGNN for several years.  Darrell enjoyed being outdoors especially when he was bird watching.  He will be dearly missed by his family and friends in the community.

Visitation will be held from 10 – 11 a.m. on Friday, September 20, 2024 at the Broadlands United Community Church with the funeral service starting at 11 a.m.; Pastor Bobbi Dykema and James McDaniel will be officiating.  Burial will follow at the Fairfield Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Broadlands and Longview Fire Department.
