Debra Lynn "Debbie" Berry, 65, of Villa Grove, Illinois, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on April 25, 1960, in Hoopeston, Illinois, Debbie was the daughter of Wendell and Judith Pittman. She grew up in Illinois and carried with her a deep sense of compassion and dedication that would define her life's work and relationships. Debbie devoted much of her professional life to caring for others. She worked as a healthcare tech at Carle Hospital, where her gentle spirit and tireless commitment touched the lives of many patients and colleagues. She also extended that same nurturing care into her own home as a daycare provider, creating a warm and welcoming environment for countless children over the years.
On August 15, 1987, Debbie married James M. Berry. Together they built a life rooted in love and faith. Their bond was strengthened through the joys of raising their two daughters, Emily Berry and Ashley Maurer (Justin), and later through the delight of watching their grandsons Jace and Johnathon Maurer grow. Family was at the heart of everything Debbie did. She shared a close relationship with her sisters Kelly Wickham and Dana Clark, and she held a special place in her heart for her nephews Cooper Clark, Brandon Donley, and Austin Donley.
A woman of deep faith, Debbie was a devoted Christian who worshipped at Victory Church. Her selflessness and compassion were evident in every aspect of her life-from the way she cared for others to the joy she found in simple moments outdoors or cheering on her grandsons at their sporting events. Gardening brought her peace and fulfillment; it was one of many ways she expressed her love for nature and beauty.
Debbie was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Wendell and Judith Pittman. Her legacy lives on through those who knew and loved her-her family, friends, former patients, daycare children, church community, and all whose lives were brightened by her kindness.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, December 19, 2025 at Joines Funeral Home in Villa Grove. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the funeral service (1 p.m. – 2 p.m.) also at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Villa Grove Cemetery.
