Dona Joyce “Joy” Frick passed away peacefully on Monday, October 28, 2024 at Carriage Crossing Senior Living, in Champaign.
Joy was born May 14, 1934 to parents Don McQueen and Olive (Warnes) McQueen. She grew up on a farm south of Longview with her brother Dave.
She attended and graduated from Longview High School where she met the love of her life, Kenneth Frick. They were married on September 6, 1953 and celebrated 69 years together until he passed in August of 2023
Joy is survived by her three sons Tim (Susan) Frick of Longview, Gary (Tammy) Frick of St Joseph and Don (Kristan) Frick of Woodstock. She had 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Joy and Kenneth started their lives together by moving to Fort Meade Maryland while Kenneth was in the Army from 1954-56. They returned to raise their sons on the family farm near Longview.
Joy spent her life supporting her family, working on the farm, and driving her sons to and from school activities. Attending sporting events and cheering on her family was one of the things she loved best in life. Joy’s love for sports started early, as she recalled going to sporting events with her father, who was a gifted athlete and long-time official in the area. She enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals and Illini sports. Joy was very active in the community and a long-time member of the Longview United Methodist Church. She and Kenneth enjoyed square dancing, camping and playing cards with their friends, but spending time with her family was her favorite thing.
Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 am on November 1st at the Sidney United Church, Sidney with the funeral service beginning at 11:00 am. Pastor Lee Jenkins will officiate.
Memorials may be made to the Sidney United Church.
