Dwight Howard Obituary

Dwight E. Howard, 87, of Villa Grove went to Heaven to be with his wife, daughter, and family on Sunday, April 12, 2026 at 12:36 a.m. with his sister Naomi and niece Tiffany by his side.

Dwight was born in St. Louis, MO a son of Rev. A.R.C. and Grace Howard.

He married his soulmate Evelyn Eggers on April 10, 1958 and had a wonderful 67 ½ years together.  They were parents to one child; Kim, and fur babies Lily and Lucy.

Evelyn and Kim preceded him in death as did both sets of their parents and several relatives.  His sisters Eldene Butler and Ruth Keefe and brother Melvin Howard also preceded him in death.  What a wonderful reunion they are having!

He leaves behind his sisters Esther Odle of Robinson and Naomi Miller of Newman.

Dwight attended Cumberland High School and then joined the Army.  He felt very honored and proud to have served his country. He and Evelyn enjoyed traveling, spending winters in Texas and Florida, and taco Tuesday.  He loved his God, family, friends, and sitting on the porch watching the deer, humming birds, and their dogs playing. Dwight worked for Chambers Chevrolet, Frank Lawhead Plumbing, and retired from D.O.T. Bridge Crew. He and Evelyn were members of the First Christian Church in Villa Grove.

Graveside service will be Sunday, April 19, 2026 at 3 p.m. at Camargo Cemetery with Pastor Mike Zylstra officiating.

Memorial donations may be made to an organization of the donor’s choice.
