Fred was born on Dec. 12, 1929 to Pete and Gladys Whitmer in Brocton, IL.
He passed away peacefully on Jan 31, 2021 at his home in Prescott, AZ.
He was a graduate of Paris High School, Paris, IL. Also a past president of the Newman High School board and past Eastern Star and Mason. He farmed for many years in Newman and Paris, IL.
He and his wife Mary Jane Reed Whitmer moved to Ft. Myers, FL where he continued to be interested in farming by becoming one of the first employees of the new Pioneer Processing Plant and worked there until it closed. He was considered a local “expert” in tomato growing both in Ft. Myers and Prescott, AZ.
Their retirement dream was to move to Prescott, AZ to a new home. They lived in Prescott until both of their deaths.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Gladys, his brother Phillip and sister, Barbara, and nephew Tim.
He is survived by his daughter Deborah, son John, 3 granddaughters, Amanda (Brian), Abigail and Emily and 2 great grandchildren, Vivien and William. His step children, Jerry, Jill (TK) and John. Also many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He and Mary Jane were married in the Fairfield Church, Newman, IL. Both of their ashes are buried there.
