Glen R. Hawkins, 66, of Newman passed away at 2:09 p.m., June 16, 2024 at home surrounded by family.
Glen was born July 17, 1957 in Tuscola to Jeanne and John Dean Hawkins who preceded him in death. Glen has 2 brothers John “Dewey” (Mary) Hawkins and Sam (Teresa) Hawkins, and 1 sister Zala (Eric) Swigart all of Newman.
Glen graduated from Newman High School in 1975 where he was an outstanding athlete in all sports he played. Glen married Cindy Drake on April 1, 1977 and they had 3 girls; Lindsey Spencer of Tuscola, Laurie (Landon) Callaway of Villa Grove, and Taylor (Dylan) Frick of Longview. He was loved and will be missed by many including his 7 grandchildren, Makenzie, Mia, and Maybree Spencer of Tuscola, Liam and Lennon Callaway of Villa Grove, and Hayes and Winnie Frick of Longview.
Glen was an avid sports fan. The Fighting Illini, Chicago Cubs, and Chicago Bears were his favorite teams to watch. Glen farmed for many years on the family farm and was also a custodian at Shiloh School for over 15 years.
A visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, June 20, 2024 at the Joines Funeral Home in Newman. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 21 also at the funeral home; Pastor Justin Smith will be officiating. Burial will follow at the Newman Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to Carle Hospice, St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or the National Stroke Association.
