James Harold Green died unexpectedly the afternoon of March 18, 2025. He was born August 27, 1929, in Akersville (Monroe County), Kentucky, the son of James & Sarah (Brown) Green. He married Joyce West in 1954. She proceeded him in death in 2021. He is survived by his daughters Martha and Jeanne.
He moved to Illinois in the late 1940s where he worked briefly for his cousin's husband. He soon found a job with Trinkle Chevrolet where he earned the nickname Junior because he was the youngest person working there. The dealership name later changed to Goby Chevrolet. He came into his element when he started repairing car bodies & became a master auto body technician. He was offered jobs elsewhere but chose to remain there until it closed when Ken Goby retired.
Harold enjoyed working with cars and restored a few. He liked to tinker around home, garden, interact with family pets, and watching over neighbors. He once had his picture in the paper with a 13 lb. sweet potato. He enjoyed sharing his garden produce with family, friends, and neighbors. His activities were diminished when he had a stroke in November 2019, but he still continued to be as active as he could.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers Lester, Junior, and Henry Thomas; two sisters Ora Mae Hutson & Emily Marie Vermillion; brothers-in-laws Garvin West, David Vermillion, and Delbert Hutson, and sisters-in-law Francis Hackworth.
Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at the Newman Cemetery in Newman; pastor Justin Smith will be officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to the Douglas County Humane Society.
