Hedi Pugh Obituary

On Wednesday, November 13, 2024, Hedi Lynn Pugh entered eternal rest, surrounded by family. Visitation will be held at the Broadlands Community Church in Broadlands, Illinois on Monday, November 18, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., with the Celebration of Life to immediately follow.

Hedi was born on July 17, 1949, to Ralph (Ike) Hedrick and Shirley Mae Tresenriter in Champaign, Illinois. She married Bruce A. Pugh on October 28, 1967, in Longview, Illinois. Together, they raised two sons, Mark A. Pugh (Beth) of Tuscola, Illinois, and Brad R. Pugh (Jennifer) of Round Rock, Texas. They have four grandchildren: Kyle, Dylan, Maxwell, and Adelynn.

She is survived by her brother Richard Hedrick (Sue) of Broadlands, Illinois, and her sisters Jean Hiler (George) of Orland Park, Illinois, and Karen Hedrick (Maddison) of Paris, Illinois. Her sister-in-law Debbie Hedrick of Broadlands along with several nieces and nephews. Hedi is preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Robert Hedrick and Randy Hedrick.

Hedi's career journey began right after high school as a billing clerk at Mercy Hospital. She then moved to Allerton Implement Company, where she worked as a data entry operator in the parts department. Hedi later took on the role of bookkeeper and secretary for ABL Heritage School District where she dedicated many years. Her career culminated in the College of Engineering at the University of Illinois, where she thoroughly enjoyed her time in the Academic Department.

Outside of her professional life, Hedi was always on the go. She passionately supported her sons at their ballgames and school events. She cherished the moments spent cheering on her grandchildren in their sports and school activities, finding immense joy in being an active part of their lives.

Hedi was a member of the Broadlands Community Church. She was a dedicated fan of the Illini, Tuscola Warriors, Round Rock Dragons, and Cloud County Thunderbirds. She maintained strong friendships from high school and her friends from her time at the University of Illinois. Hedi enjoyed lively card games with family and friends, playing everything from Euchre, Bridge, Poker and Uno. There were several spirited and contested games, especially with her loved ones.

A true lover of the beach, Hedi found joy in the warm sands of Fort Myers, Florida, often saying that "walking on the beach and warm weather was for her."

Her family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Rowland and the staff at Carle for their compassionate care throughout the years. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Broadlands Community Church, or the Tuscola United Methodist Church.
