John H. Porter, 87, of Marshall (formerly of Plato and Mountain Grove, MO) passed away peacefully on Monday, April 28, 2025 at his home.
John was born to Leonard and Dorothy (Dawson) Porter on January 17, 1938 in Metcalf, IL.
He is survived by one son, Randy (Tina) Porter of Chrisman; two step-sons, Dan (Stacey) Sanford of Newburg, MO and Jamie Sanford of Springfield, MO; nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Joe (Elaine) Porter; and his ex-wife, Shirley Camp-Rund.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Dorothey Porter; wife, Betty Porter; and daughter, Valerie Griffith.
John was a lifelong farmer and loved all aspects of it. He spent almost 20 years living in Missouri as a dairy farmer. When he wasn’t farming, he loved to fish, and really enjoyed his fishing trips to Canada with his family and friends. He also enjoyed camping and canoeing.
A visitation will be held from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. on Sunday, May 4, 2025 at the Joines Funeral Home in Newman with a funeral service to follow; Doug Rund will be officiating. Burial will be at the Young America Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Hume American Legion.
