Mary M. Rund

Mary Margaret Rund, 92, of Villa Grove passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 5, 2022 at 12:30 p.m. at the Breese Nursing Home in Breese, IL.

Mary was born to Anthony and Mary (Patrick) Cabalek on September 27, 1929 in Villa Grove. 

She married Robert L. Rund on June 21, 1952 and together they had five children; Roberta L. Moore of Normal, IL, Michael J. Rund (deceased), Philip J. Rund of Breese, IL, Kathleen Bennett of Pesotum, and Toni L. Gibson of Ohio.  All together they have 23 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by three sisters, Judith Barracks of Urbana, Martha Temple of NY, and Carolyn Yontz of VA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob Rund; one son, Michael J. Rund; grandson, Jimmy (Kathleen); and three granddaughters, Jamie, Natalie, and Brittany.

Mary graduated from St. Mary's Academy in Nauvoo, IL in 1947 and would then attend ISNU and would graduate from there with a teaching degree.  She taught in Sidell, Longview, Tuscola, Villa Grove, and substituted for several years.  She played the organ for Sacred Heart Catholic Church for many decades and directed choirs there. 

She was involved in Cursillo, Marriage Encounter, Hospice, RVICS, and Children’s Haven.  She was also one of the last Villa Grove Pancake Queens.

A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at the Joines Funeral Home (Villa Grove) with a Rosary service beginning at 7 p.m.  The funeral service will be held the following day (February 10, 2022) at 10:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Villa Grove with Father Aloy officiating.  Burial will follow at the St. Mary’s Cemetery rural Pesotum.
