Nancy Anne Hill (1938-2025), beloved mother to Angela (Donald) Ruwe and Pamela (Darrin) Tate, passed away peacefully at home on February 23, 2025, leaving a void that will be impossible to fill.
She was born on June 15, 1938, to Earl Cooley and Mamie Lee (Guthrie) Roller and lived all but four years of her life in her childhood home south of Sidell. Following her graduation from Jamaica High School, she received her associate's degree and started a career as a hairdresser and farmer. Nancy and Larry were married on September 21, 1958, at Fairfield Chapel in Newman, Illinois, and lived briefly in Newman before moving to Sidell, where they farmed side by side until their retirement in 2003
Nancy took special joy in caring for her family, her home, and the farm. She enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing, and yard work. She was especially close to her nieces and nephews, who loved visiting Aunt Nancy and Uncle Larry on the farm. Nancy was a member of the Allerton United Methodist Church.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, J. Wilber Roller and Robert Logan Roller, and a granddaughter, Sophia Lynn Ruwe. She is survived by her husband Larry, daughters Angela and Pamela, nine grandchildren, Ashley (Trenton), Hannah (Robert), Amanda (Josh), Aubrey (Jacob), Cecilia (Jacob), Allison (Travis), Zachary, Loran, and Grace. She was known as Nana G to 10 great-grandchildren (Esther, Hunter, Theo, Piper, Joanna, Malakai, Ellie, Asher, Oliver, and Karlie Jo). Nancy is also survived by one brother, Earl C. Roller; and her lifelong friend, Nita Fern Winkler.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 5, from 9 until 11 a.m. at Joines Funeral Home, Newman, with funeral at 11. Burial will follow at Fairfield Church and Cemetery, Newman. Memorials may be made to the Allerton United Methodist Church.
