Patrick E. Dillon

July 6, 1960 ~ September 11, 2023 (age 63) 63 Years Old

Obituary

Patrick E. Dillon, 63, of Newman passed away on Monday, September 11, 2023 at Paris Community Hospital.

Pat was born on July 6, 1960 in Paris to James and Karen (Step) Dillon.

He is survived by his mother, Karen Dillon; three siblings, Mary (Roy) Richter, Matt (Kim) Dillon, and Mark (Jennifer) Dillon; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Dillon; and one brother, Michael Dillon.

Son, brother, uncle, cousin, friend. Patrick Dillon - an avid player of Euchre, a man who treasured his nieces and nephews (and great nieces and nephew), and someone who had an appreciation for the live performances in Chicago. Patrick was a lover of life.

Patrick enjoyed traveling, having visited many places from Hawaii and beyond. He looked forward to his annual visits to Wichita, KS where he found joy in being with family, trying new restaurants, and visiting the Keeper of the Plains.

His calling was to help people and that’s exactly what he did. From his careers at the school and the hospital to being the older brother with the helping hand, he gave his time to anyone in need. Having spent 20 years in central supply at Carle Hospital, he touched the lives of many patients and coworkers alike. When his coworkers needed time off for medical needs, he was often seen donating his own vacation time to lessen their burdens.

As a patient himself, he was a favorite among the nurses at Pleasant Meadows. He had noted, while staying there, that every time they mowed, there was spinach on the menu the next day. This was not something that went unnoticed by Pat and he found it a bit ironic.

He never met a stranger and would talk anyone’s ear off. A cat lover, Patrick adored his boy Finn. A car lover, he got a kick out of VW Bugs.

He found immense joy in the day to day with a dry sense of humor and an infectious belly laugh. Those who knew Patrick Dillon will only smile when remembering him, knowing they got to experience one of this world’s brightest lights.

Selfishly, we all wish we could have kept Pat here with us a little longer. But what peace knowing he’s now in Heaven, joining father James Dillon and brother Michael Dillon. If only we could hear the colorful conversations they’re having now.

A visitation will be held from 5 – 8 p.m. at the Newman United Methodist Church on Thursday, September 14, 2023.  The funeral service will be the following day (Friday, September 15) at 10 a.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church (rural Paris, IL) with Father Aloy officiating.  Burial will follow at the North Arm Cemetery.
