Randy S. Smith

Randy S. Smith, 72, of Arthur passed away on Thursday, May 8, 2025 at his home.

Randy was born to Lloyd and Charlotte (Partenheimer) Smith on April 30, 1953 in Urbana, IL.  He married Carol Terven on November 27, 1987 in Philo, IL.   They were together for 30 years before her passing in 2018.

He is survived by four children, Ben Smith of Bement, Nick Smith of Arthur, Sam Smith of Arthur, and Kenzi Smith of Arthur; seven grandchildren, Zoey Smith, Emmaka Smith, Kai Smith, Kamrynn Smith, Kennedy Smith, Oaklee Smith, and Olivia Hastings; three siblings, Stanley Smith, Sandra (Kenny) Spencer, and Peggy (Jeff) Hillery; one sister-in-law, Dr. Carol Brown; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Smith; parents, Lloyd and Charlotte Smith, and one brother, Steve Smith.

Randy was an athletic kid growing up and played football, baseball, basketball, and ran track at ABL High School.  After high school he attended Parkland College and also was on the basketball team.  Randy was a crane operator for over 25 years and was a member of the Local 965 Operators Union.

Randy never met a stranger, but if he didn’t know you, he would make you feel like he has known you his whole life.  He was a huge St. Louis Cardinals fan and loved to watch them play, and he enjoyed shooting guns as well.  What Randy cherished the most was his time spent with his children and grandchildren. 

A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at the Joines Funeral Home in Newman with a funeral service beginning at 12 p.m.; pastor Justin Smith will be officiating.  Burial will be at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery.
