Richard I. Casteel of Mahomet passed away Tuesday, December 2, 2025 at home.
Rich was born on April 12, 1950 at Burnham Hospital to Ed "Tom" and Margaret "Maggie" Casteel. Rich married Carolyn Felkner, March 17, 1972; she survives.
Rich is also survived by his children, Jason, Paxton; Connie Jo (Blake), Chenoa; grandchildren Jordan and Cassidy Casteel and Maggie Jo Mowery. Also surviving are his sisters, Lynn (Chuck), Tuscola and Shelley (Ron), Pasadena, TX; his brother-in-law Tom (Karen) Felkner, Villa Grove, his sisters-in-law, Joyce (Lane) Blair, Newman and Sue (Brian) Blair, Pesotum; daughter in law, Chrissy; nieces and nephews, and his dog Reba.
Rich was a t-ball coach, Boy Scout leader, and a member of the Newman and Shiloh Methodist Church. Rich was a laborer with Local 703, coal miner for 17 years, building and grounds maintenance, over the road truck driver and sales manager. He loved the brotherhood of the coal mine, but he would tell you his favorite job was being a truck driver. He loved seeing the country side. Rich's real calling though was sales manager at MC Sports. He loved talking about hunting and fishing and showing people the correct items to buy. He truly loved working with his nephew, Mike and his wife Jenn.
A visitation will be held from 4 – 6 p.m. on Thursday, December 11 at Joines Funeral Home in Newman. A funeral service will be held the following day (December 12) at 11 a.m. also at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Fairfield Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Shiloh Methodist Church, Newman Methodist Church or American Legion Post 201, Newman.
