Richard H. Skinner, 80, of Broadlands died at 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 9, 2026 at Carle Hospital in Urbana, IL.
No formal funeral services will be held. A Celebration of Life will be held at Lincoln Street Lounge in Broadlands, with the date to be announced at a later time. He will be laid to rest at St. John’s Cemetery in Broadlands.
Richard was born February 5, 1946 in Tuscola, IL, the son of Austin and Jennie (Long) Skinner. He married Rebecca Snyder on July 1, 1967, and she survives.
Also surviving are two children, Paul Skinner of Champaign and Sarah Frazee of Tuscola; one granddaughter, Kennedy Bowers of Villa Grove; and one brother, Donald Skinner of Villa Grove.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings, Ronald Skinner and an infant brother.
Richard worked for the Illinois Department of Transportation for 30 years, retiring in 1999. He was also a member of the Army Reserves.
Richard enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, especially spending time outdoors mowing and working in his yard while watching the birds. He had many hobbies and took great pride in woodworking, often building furniture and crafting birdhouses for family and friends. He found great satisfaction in working with his hands and sharing the things he created with those around him. Richard also enjoyed working on art projects, especially painting and crafting with his granddaughter, time that he cherished greatly. He was a wonderful and loving husband, father, and grandfather, and his family meant the world to him. He leaves behind many fond memories and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Memorial donations may be made to the Broadlands Fire Department.
