Richard E. Wood Jr.

Richard E. Wood Jr., 62, of Hume passed away on Friday, February 7, 2025 at his home.

Richard was born on February 16, 1962 in Paris, IL to Richard Sr. and Gladys (Deckard) Wood. 

He is survived by his dad, Richard Wood Sr.; one son, Thomas Wood; one granddaughter, Laney Wood; and three brothers, Robert Wood, Randal Wood, and Rodney Wood.

He was preceded in death by his mom, Gladys Wood; maternal grandparents, Howard and Lorriane Deckard; and paternal grandparents, Earl and Ellen Wood.

Richard graduated from Shiloh High School in 1980.  He worked for Cargil for over 35 years as a grain miller and was a volunteer fireman for the Hume Fire Department for 45 years.  Richard was a hard worker and did what he had to do to provide for his family.  He enjoyed camping and fishing, and loved to ride his motorcycle.  He was baptized at and a member of the Hume Christian Church.

A visitation will be held from 1-3 p.m. on Monday, February 17, 2025 with the funeral service held immediately after at the Joines Funeral Home in Newman; Pastor Justin Smith will be officiating. Burial will be at the Young America Cemetery, Hume.
