Robert F. Joines

Robert (Bob) Frank Joines, 94, of Newman Illinois passed away on November 1, 2024 at the Newman Rehabilitation and Health Center. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 pm on Tuesday, November 5th at Joines Funeral Home, Newman, Illinois. A private family funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 6th. Burial will be in the Newman Township Cemetery, Newman, Illinois.

Bob was a graduate of Newman High School in the Class of 1948. He attended Eastern Illinois University, and Worsham College of Mortuary Science.

He began his career as a farmer and he loved the land. After mortuary school he became a partner with William McGaughey at the McGaughey and Joines Funeral Home in Newman, Illinois. After Mr. McGaughey retired, Bob established the Joines Funeral Home in Newman for the next 60 years, adding another funeral home in Villa Grove, Illinois in 1978. Bob retired from the funeral home business in 2015.

An avid golfer with a beautiful swing, Bob and his wife, Areta, were members of Tri-City Golf Club for over 70 years. He was an outstanding golfer, winning several Tri-City and Douglas County tournaments, and has the claim to fame of 5 hole-in-ones. He was also a member of the CISA Senior Amateur Golf League where he and his wife enjoyed meeting couples from all over central Illinois.

Bob had a knack for woodworking and created beautiful grandfather clocks for his three daughters and friends, as well as crafting many items of interest.

Bob loved his family and was the ultimate "girl dad." His kindness, work ethic and compassion for his community were unmatched. He and his wife, Areta, just celebrated 75 years of marriage this past September.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents Anna and Jack Joines, two brothers Bill and Ben Joines, and Jane and Harold Hooe, who were very dear to him as his sister-in-law and brother-in-law.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Areta, his three daughters Jennifer Appleby (Jeff), Jane Ann Faust (Bob), and Nancy Knight (Napoleon). He is also survived by 6 grandchildren Andy Appleby, Scott Faust, Mark Faust, Ted Faust, Brad Busboom and Luke Wilson. He also has 13 great-grandchildren.

Memorials can be made to the Newman American Legion Post 201, Newman, Illinois, or the Tri-City Golf Club Building Fund, Villa Grove, Illinois.
