Sherri Thompson Obituary

Sherri Alice (Eastin) Thompson, 78, of Newman, Illinois passed away peacefully on October 25, 2025. She was the first child of Raymond and Alice (Dague) Eastin born on October 13, 1947.  She graduated from Newman High School in 1965 and then Avenue School of Beauty in Champaign.

Sherri married her high school sweetheart, Lester (Tony) Thompson on September 23, 1966. He survives with four children: Shannon (Mary) of Newman, Shaun of Newman, Seth of Port St. Lucie, FL and Sara (Jeff) Richey of Herrin.  Her brother Rick Eastin preceded her in death, sister Kathy Dorsett and brother Kent Eastin both of Newman survive.

Grandchildren Quinton, Gabriel and Paige Thompson of Monticello, Aidan of Newman and Alec (Kimberly) Thompson of Decatur, two grandkittens, Jefe and Sailor Richey of Herrin and great grandson Dallas Thompson of Monticello.

Sherri was a dedicated wife and mother. She spent many hours shuttling the kids to various sporting events and being a room mother at the school. She was very creative and strived to make events special. She was an accomplished baker, making memorable wedding and birthday cakes. She also enjoyed sewing, quilting and painting.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Joines Funeral Homes, 401 W Gillogly St., Newman, IL on Friday, October 31, 2025, from 4 – 7 p.m.  The family requests that guests wear attire representing their favorite sports team (Go Illini!).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Association or to another organization of one’s own choice.
