Thomas L. Schmidt

Thomas Leon Schmidt peacefully passed away on December 7th, 2024 at the age of 59. Tom was born in Champaign, IL on November 25, 1965 to his late parents Harold and Louise Schmidt. He proudly served the United States Army from 1992 through 2012 where he was awarded The Bronze Star for his service. 

He is survived by his three sons and their partners Jordan Schmidt, Thomas & Jessica Schmidt and Jaccob & Heather Schmidt; his two grandchildren Owen and Abigail Schmidt; the mother of his children, Sherry Wainscott; and, his siblings and their partners, Steve & Eileen Schmidt, Karen Smith, Susan Schmidt, Connie Masters, Barb & Daryl Vandeventer, Paul Schmidt, Sara & Rick Rybarczyk, Mary Richmond & Mark Jackson, and Theresa Newman. Tom is preceded in death by his brother Danny Schmidt. He was deeply loved by his extended family and friends. 

Tom had a love of auto restoration for older Ford models. He was in the process of restoring a 1990 Ford F-150 named “Big Red”. Tom enjoyed to travel which took him all over the world. He enjoyed helping others and he never met a stranger. Tom will be greatly missed.

A visitation will be held from 5 – 7 p.m. on Friday, December 13, 2024 at the Joines Funeral Home in Villa Grove.  Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 14, 2024 also at the funeral home.  Burial with military honors will follow at the St. Mary’s Cemetery, Pesotum, IL.
