William Young Obituary

William Marion Young, 97, of Newman passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2022 at Reflections Memory Care in Savoy.

Marion was born on February 8, 1925 in rural Newman to Maurice and Ferne (Winkler) Young.  He married Sara Sue (Dicks) Young on January 9, 1949 and then married Gerry (Hoch) Young on June 12, 2011; they both preceded him in death.

He is survived by three children, Suzanne (Terry) Robinson, Mary (Jeff) Monahan, and David (Debby) Young; five grandchildren, Bryan (Emily) Lesko, Sara (Jason) Lytle, Emily (Jason) McCormick, Samantha (Jared) Murphy, and Will Young; three great-grandchildren; and one brother, Jim (Pat) Young.

Marion was a centennial farmer and loved all aspects of farming.  He was always curious and willing to learn more which would lead him to improve his Bean Buggy and would invent many other items that would help him on the farm. He also enjoyed woodworking, photography, traveling, and loved to listen to music and dance.  His love of music inspired him to be a roadie for The Gene Trimble Orchestra for many years.

Marion was also a member of the Newman United Methodist Church, Newman School Board, and was a Mason for 74 years.

A private graveside service will be held on Sunday, October 9, 2022 at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery (rural Newman) with Pastor Melanie Hoth Officiating.

Memorial donations may be made to the Newman United Methodist Church.
